The news media has discussed the attack on Paul Pelosi, the husband of Speaker Nancy Pelosi, over the last few days and one of them was CNN host Jake Tapper.
Many are attempting to blame why the incident occurred. Tapper believes that some elected officials and TV anchors are condemned for forming a "permission structure" that has unlocked the door for political violence.
"There are people in mainstream accepted society — elected officials, TV anchors, others — who have been creating a permission structure that is helping to open the door to this violence," Tapper said on the Friday edition of his show (h/t The Hill).
"This horrifying act of violence today, I wish I could tell you it's an outlier. It's not. It is the inevitable product of a poisonous political climate where unchecked lies and hate-filled dehumanizing rhetoric combine to create a perfect storm of political violence."
Many in the news media, along with Tapper, reacted to the incident, which was a mix of sharing their concern for Pelosi's husband while others spotlighted the increase in crime.
