During an appearance on The Greg Hill Show on WEEI, WFAN morning host Boomer Esiason joked he needs to give quarterbacks a class on what to say to the media.
The former New York Jets and Cincinnati Bengals quarterback was asked what he made of the comments from Jets quarterback Zach Wilson gave to the Patriots after losing 22-17 Sunday.
"I think, Courtney (Cox), I need to give a class on Quarterback 101 and how to handle the media," Esiason said. "Because when you have such a disastrous game as he did yesterday, you get up there in front of the media and you take accountability for that. And you say -- and he tried to do this and he kind of expanded his thoughts a little bit and he just made it worse -- 'I made bad reads, I made bad plays, I made bad decisions, I cost my team the game'.
"And the reason I say that's important is because in today's day and age of social media, whatever you say is gonna go viral. No matter what. Especially when you play as poorly as he did. That means your teammates, your coaches, your owner, everyone involved in your organization sees how you react in the face of adversity."
Esiason would be as qualified as any to give quarterbacks lessons in working with the media. After ending his playing career in 1997, he has gone on to work as a game analyst with ABC and Westwood One for Monday Night Football, the Super Bowl, and also has worked as a studio analyst for The NFL Today and Inside the NFL.
