Syndicated media personality Clay Travis accused actor Will Smith of setting a disturbing "precedent" for free speech following his attack on Chris Rock at the 94th annual Academy Awards.
According to Mediate, Travis joined Brian Kilmeade on Fox & Friends Wednesday to discuss how Smith's actions may have emboldened a man to attack comedian Dave Chappelle Tuesday at the Hollywood Bowl.
"We don't know if these are directly connected," Travis said. "But oftentimes, what happens is a choice gets put out into the atmosphere," Travis said.
The New York Post said the man who attacked Chappelle was identified as a "rapper" named Isaiah Bell who wrote a song about the comedian. Travis warned of "copy-cat" attacks in the wake of Tuesday night's incident.
"It's not uncommon for comedians to get heckled in the crowd, but someone who took the next step and decided to go on the stage and strike someone was certainly paramount in comedians' minds with what Will Smith decided to do, with what the tens of millions of people saw happen there," Travis said.
"I think comedy clubs everywhere should be considering what sort of security they have near the stage to try to protect performers," he added.
