John McClain is calling it a career after 47 years at the Houston Chronicle, and Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner honored the Bill Nunn Award winner by proclaiming April 5 "John McClain Day" in Houston.

Over on Sports Radio 610, morning hosts Sean Pendergast and Seth Payne encouraged listeners to do two things in honor of John McClain.

"Do something nice for people," Pendergast said was the first thing. "John has done many, many nice things for many, many people. He's helped many young people in their careers. So find a young person and help them in their career today."

Second: "If you find somebody who's doing their job poorly, you can publicly lambast them," he said. He then proceeded to play a McClain rant tearing into the Texans following a blowout loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars late in the 2017 season where McClain called Houston's performance, "an abomination from start to finish."

"Find somebody who's doing their job poorly and give them a G for effort today - G minus," Pendergast added.

They then reflected on McClain's Twitter account when the Texans are playing. McClain has no problems calling out issues.

"It's funny, a lot of people outside of Houston wouldn't know John other than from his Twitter account. And on his Twitter account on game days he's a different person," Payne said. "He goes a little bit psycho and he just turns into just your average fan and just lambasts the team."

The two hosts then talked about a reported Peter King story about McClain allegedly trying to get the scoop on the Texans hiring former University of Miami and Cleveland Browns head coach Butch Davis.

The story goes that apparently McClain disguised himself as one of the landscaping workers working on Bob McNair's mansion, looking in windows to see if Davis was in the house.

Pendergast said he had a hard time believing that story was true.

"There are many different things that somebody working on the grounds of a mansion can wear. John never wears that outfit ever, ever, ever," he said. "If he was able to blend in the one area of the McNair empire I have to question is security. If John was able to blend into the grounds crew, I question security on the grounds of the McNair's house."
