On Monday, Dan Patrick told his audience that he had to turn off Sunday's AFC Championship game when the Kansas City Chiefs took a 21-3 lead on the Cincinnati Bengals. But he eventually made his way back to the TV as the Bengals overcame the 18-point deficit and forced the game into overtime.
But as the Bengals completed the comeback, Patrick reached out to noted Chiefs fan, Kansas City native, and FS1 host Nick Wright in an effort to get a rise out of him.
Wright was a guest on Tuesday's The Dan Patrick Show and according to the host's recollection, he texted "I think the Bengals have your attention" to Wright. But Wright said that wasn't quite accurate.
"Let's be fair, Dan, because I have to unblock your number," Wright said. "I think the exact quote, if we're going to be fair, is quote, 'I think MY Bengals have YOUR attention,' end quote. You personalized it. You made this as a Dan Patrick versus Nick Wright thing, which is interesting, because I didn't know you were a lifelong Cincinnati Bengals fan."
Patrick defended himself further, saying he didn't mean anything other than it just being a great game. He said Wright could've just responded, but Wright felt like Patrick was trolling.
"I wasn't rubbing it in your face when it was 21-3," Wright said. "Why would you reach out to me when I'm at my most vulnerable?"
"I thought it was rude, I thought it was unbecoming, I thought it was bullying much like our last interview," he added.
Wright said Dan knew how much was riding on the game for the First Things First co-host. But Patrick maintained his innocence.
"I just wanted to put it out there and just say, 'You know what, that was a nice contest, and the Bengals put up a good fight,'" he said. "That was it!"
The bit ended with Wright just saying he had hoped to run out the clock on their segement without talking about the game during the alloted time. But Patrick got one last jab in.
"No, I'm going to blow right through the commercial break and just keep going because the dynasty of one continues in Kansas City," Patrick said to groans from Wright.
