KFI AM 640 fill-in host Mo Kelly spent a good portion of his opening monologue Monday talking about the reason people should not be celebrating Memorial Day in joyous fashion.
Kelly, who had been doing fill-in shows all weekend for various hosts, was in for Gary and Shannon Monday morning. He invited listeners to engage with him on social media and then shared what he saw on his own timeline during the solemn holiday.
"When I got up this morning and opened up my social media accounts and looked at what my friends were posting, I was amazed, genuinely amazed at some of the rich history, which was being posted online by family and friends regarding remembrances of those that we had lost," Kelly said. "I had one friend that posted content about a family member he lost during the Vietnam War."
Southern California residents were treated to many events Monday that were both virtual and non-virtual that commemorated the life and legacy of those that made the ultimate sacrifice.
Kelly said that the posts that he saw online were very emotional and had great meaning.
"I would have to assume that these memories are carried forth and held real tightly. That's why I don't say happy Memorial Day as we remember those soldiers who lost their lives serving in America."
