Ever wondered what iPhones will look like in the year 2027?
A recently published paper by DSCC analysts has shed light on Apple's future iPhone designs and technologies for the coming years.
DSCC's Ross Young initially disclosed Apple's new hole-punch and pill-shaped design for the iPhone 14 Pro, with the standard model retaining the current notch design. The firm is now projecting that future iPhone models will feature under-display sensors and advanced Pro features, including an Always-On Display and ProMotion, across all versions.
If Apple sticks to its planned timeline, the iPhone Pro models will evolve as follows:
- 2023 & 2024: Pill-shaped design
- 2025 & 2026: Under-display Face ID with a hole
- 2027: Face ID and camera both under the display
The iPhone design will likely remain similar to that of the 14 Pro until next year. Beginning with the iPhone 17 Pro, Face ID sensors will be incorporated under the screen, potentially shrinking the size of the Dynamic Island. By the iPhone 18 Pro, we can expect an all-screen smartphone with all sensors concealed behind the display.
As for the standard iPhone models, the expected progressions are:
- 2023 & 2024: Pill-shaped design without Always-On Display (AOD) and ProMotion
- 2025 & 2026: Pill-shaped design featuring AOD and ProMotion
- 2027: Under-display Face ID and hole with AOD and ProMotion
From 2025 onward, standard iPhone models will also benefit from ProMotion and Always-On Display technologies. By 2027, both Pro and regular models will feature under-panel Face ID sensors, offering a complete full-screen experience.
This leaked roadmap should help consumers plan when might be the best time to upgrade their iPhones in the years to come.
