If Kyiv wins the Ukraine War and afterward joins NATO and the EU, the fight is not over, because AI is threatening all of humanity. AI will probably enslave us, imprison everyone inside a panopticon, or it might even annihilate humanity, cf Geoffrey Hinton and Eliezer Yudkowsky.
It's necessary for Ukraine to fight the Russian empire, partly because Putin is an ex-KGB officer who is willing to subordinate Russia to the AI empire of China. If Kyiv doesn't stop Russia in Ukraine, then occupied territories will eventually become part of China's AI panopticon.
But an AI panopticon is basically the same no matter whether it originates in the West or in the East. The AI developed in Silicon Valley is basically no less dangerous than the AI developed in Shenzhen.
Furthermore, Big Tech on the West Coast in the US and Big Tech in China often cooperate in practice even though both empires compete fiercely. In many ways they are not de-coupled, and they will probably remain entangled for the next 10 years. AGI might be developed in 2 to 5 years, with much hardware produced in the East and software mainly designed in the West.
Ukrainians are very brave, and most of them are traditionalists opposed to both communism and wokeness. It's therefore great if some of them join the fight against all AI panopticons, in order to protect constitutional democracies. It's equally good if real Russian nationalists, who don't want to be part of the Chinese AI empire, organize a resistance in the East.
Ukrainians are Orthodox Christians, and Russians are Orthodox Christians. They now fight each other in a war, but doing that while AI develops quickly in America and China is like two gladiators fighting in an arena while Godzilla is sitting on a bench watching the fight before it kills the winner. Consequently, if Ukraine wants freedom after winning the war, they must continue to fight AI panopticons in the East and West. As others have pointed out, the Ukraine War is only the beginning of Cold War 2. The main enemy of humanity in Cold War 2 is AI.
