Former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer saw his defamation lawsuit against Deadspin dismissed earlier this week.
Bauer -- who was suspended by Major League Baseball for 324 games after the league found he was guilty of sexual assault -- had brought forth the case against Deadspin (and former Editor Chris Baud) over statements made in a 2021 article.
The article in question stated that -- according to his accuser -- Bauer had turned violent during a sexual encounter the woman had previously agreed to. The story went on to posit that Bauer's lawyer "did not deny he was responsible for her injuries, that the victim didn't consent to having her face beaten and her skull fractured, and that it was only the initial CT scan that showed a fracture".
A Southern District of New York judge dismissed the case with prejudice, prohibiting Bauer from filing another case for the same statements by Deadspin.
"We at Deadspin are heartened by the decision and remain committed to reporting on and exposing violence against women by athletes, no matter how famous," writer Julie DiCaro said.
