Scott Ferrall has never been afraid to get under people's skin on the radio, and that attitude has carried him to a long and successful career.
Ferrall, who now hosts his own show on SportsGrid, appeared as a guest with Zach Gelb on CBS Sports Radio Monday to reflect on his career and run with the network.
Ferrall recalled being open about sports betting long before it was legalized across the country, talking about it on the radio frequently.
"I cannot tell you how many people sued me and tried to have me put in prison, that I was the devil, and I was basically a child molester because I talked gambling. It was so taboo," he said. "Now all those same people that defied me were now sleeping with me. And they're all making billions of dollars, and I'm doing it for a living."
Ferrall said being in his late 50s now, he doesn't anticipate hosting much longer. But he's happy with the gig he's got at the moment.
"I'm right where I need to be," he told Gelb. "Hopefully I keep doing it what I'm doing until I wrap it up. I'm 57 now, but I kind of just want to put my kids through college."
"Seeing them grow up and go to college I think that'll be the end of it for me," he added. "I'm not gonna be the dude that stays on the air until he's 70, 75. It's not happening, Zach."
Thinking about being a nationally syndicated host, working with the legendary Howard Stern, going back to sports radio, being an NHL play-by-play announcer, and now being on TV every day, Ferrall said he doesn't have a reason to really continue hosting past his early 60s.
"By the time I'm 64 or 65, believe me I'll be long gone," he said. "I'm not a hanger on dude."
