The College Football Playoff took center stage on New Year's Eve, and the semifinal action carried on literally into the first minutes of 2023.
The Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl between Ohio State and Georgia kicked off around 8:20 p.m., and by the time the Bulldogs survived a missed last-second field goal attempt by Ohio State that would've won the game, the ball in Times Square in New York City had made its descent to ring in the new year.
On WFAN, morning host Boomer Esiason said the semifinal games were entirely too long.
"The replays, the officiating, it's just insufferable," he said on Boomer & Gio on Monday. "You can't sit through a game for 4 hours and 20 minutes."
Boomer was asked if he made it to the end of the Georgia game, and he admitted he didn't.
"I fell asleep," he said. "I didn't see the rest of it."
Georgia will play TCU for the national championship on January 9 in Los Angeles.
