After announcing he would step away from the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament this coming spring, many have speculated when Jim Nantz would retire from his work with CBS Sports and its coverage of the NFL and The Masters. Nantz told Dan Patrick those days aren't coming anytime soon.
The longtime CBS Sports voice wasn't shy about his admiration for golf's biggest event.
"The Masters -- to me -- is the thing that's deepest in my heart. I've never chosen one sport as my favorite to do, but I think everyone knows that The Masters is something I feel a real personal tie to."
Nantz then added he has been enamored with the event since he was a pre-teen.
"It was the event when I was 11-years-old and I turned to my mom and dad and went 'That's what I'd like to do one day. I'd like to be one of those voices'. I was watching a Masters tournament," Nantz remembered. "'I wanna do that'. I've been so fortunate. I've been living that childhood dream. Even into my 60s, so it's been pretty amazing."
He then revealed his motive for wanting to announce The Masters in 2036.
"You know how long I want to do The Masters for. That remains central, as does the NFL for many, many more years with Tony. We're gonna do this another decade or so, maybe a little beyond. The Masters, I would like to do it 51 times, as bizarre as that sounds. Because my 51st Masters would be the 100th playing of The Masters. And I'd like to be there to see the end of the first century and that's just a little goal I have in the back of my head. I'm through 37 right now, so 14 to go. Hopefully."
