The Washington Post announced on Tuesday that Kathy Baird is the newspaper's new Chief Communications Officer, supervising corporate communications, public relations, live events, and brand marketing.
Baird comes to the news media from a different background as she arrives at The Post from Nike, serving as the Senior Director of Global Communications.
"The Washington Post is laser focused in serving a more expansive global readership. This role will be critical in advancing our global communication strategy and branding," Publisher and CEO Fred Ryan said.
"Kathy brings extensive experience in corporate and consumer marketing and digital communications and will serve as a key strategic partner for all aspects of the business as we realize our ambitious vision for the publication."
Along with her experience at Nike, she spent time as the Managing Director and Head of Ogilvy's Washington, DC office leading a cross-functional integrated business and team, so she's familiar with the city. Before that, she oversaw the integrated marketing team at FleishmanHillard.
"It's an honor to join the team at The Washington Post, one of the most storied outlets in the history of media and journalism," Baird said.
"I couldn't be more excited to work for the news source I have read and trusted for decades. With my mission-driven background, I look forward to fostering innovation, transformation and growth globally for the business and in service of a free press."
