Podcasts have become the go-to audio source for many due to the convenience of listening to any show whenever and wherever. As a result, NPR and Edison Research are releasing their fourth annual Spoken Word Audio Report (h/t Radio Online).
Regarding weekly news consumption podcasts between 18-24 year-olds, 13 percent are listening to a program in the news category. However, that percentage goes up with the 25 and older crowd, which listens to 31 percent.
Meanwhile, comedy is number one for both groups but has a significant lead among those ages 18-24. Sixty-two percent of weekly podcast listeners ages 18-24 reported listening to a Comedy podcast in the last week.
"Most of the genres on these two lists are the same, however, not all #1 ranks are created equal, and comedy far outpaces the next closest genre as the favorite among those age 18-24," Radio Online wrote.
"News gets a more prominent place among the older group, and Business replaces Education for the older group as well."
NPR and Edison Research will discuss their findings in a webinar on Thursday, Oct. 27, at 2 p.m. ET.
