One teenager is dead and four others were injured after two gunmen fired nearly 70 shots during football practice at Roxborough High School in Philadelphia. 1210 WPHT host Rich Zeoli noted the lack of national media attention to the story, saying it didn't fit the usual school shooting narrative that drives much of the related coverage.
"There's no question in my mind what happened here at the high school was gang-related," Zeoli said. "No doubt. I think you'd have to be foolish to think otherwise. So it won't make national news because of that. Because this is just part of the ongoing criminal problem in Philadelphia, the criminal crisis that we have in the city of Philadelphia right now. And because it's not a lone wolf walking in with an AR-15, it's not going to make the national news. I just checked The New York Times website. It's not there, certainly not on the front page for sure.
"I know there's a hurricane coming towards Florida but typically the media would stop everything that they're doing to focus on a school shooting but when everybody knows this is gang related and everybody knows this is the kind of stuff that goes on in Philadelphia daily, it's particularly hurtful because it was kids at football practice, but this city is under siege by criminals."
