If you've ever wanted to watch a movie on your smartphone or put some hours into a sensitive work project during a flight without your seat neighbour staring at your screen, then the new Lenovo Glasses T1 are for you.

A wearable display is not a new concept and has been tried before with varying success; however, they've often involved headsets where you slot your smartphone into the front panel.

The Lenovo Glasses T1 are slightly more discerning and resemble a larger pair of sunglasses, but if privacy is of concern, this could be a small price.

The Glasses T1 will be marketed in China as the Lenovo Yoga Glasses.

Features //Lenovo Glasses T1

Lenovo has focused the Glasses T1 on its consumer market and not its vast enterprise client base, but with no price announced yet, the cost could be a factor for most tech-savvy buyers.

The glasses boast two 1920x1080 displays, one for each eye, and have a 60Hz refresh rate with the micro-OLED display technology promising a super-high contrast ratio of 10,000:1.

On the stems, Lenovo has incorporated dual High-fidelity speakers for audio playback, although how popular you'd be using this during a flight is debatable.

Lenovo didn't release details on any internal battery, or even the presence of one, other than to say users could expect "up to hours without worrying about draining the batteries of the connected devices".

Full USB-C connectivity suggests they are powered by the device they're plugged into.

Dongles

Lenovo has opened up its Glasses T1 to work with any full-function USB-C Apple, Windows or Android device, but this will come with a downside for some.

Dongles!

A USB-C cable from the left ear stem will plug directly into most Android or Windows devices.

iPhone users would need a dongle, and Lenovo will sell an optional HDMI to Glasses Adapter to connect Glasses T1 with Lightning Connector-equipped devices.

With a solution like the Lenovo Glasses T1, users have a portable and private big screen experience and can get more value from their phones and laptops.

A Fit for All

Like the booming earbuds market, where multiple tips are included to provide the best fit, Lenovo will ship three adjustable nose pads with Glasses T1 to ensure comfort for long periods of use.

And, with your eye health in mind, Lenovo has factored in space for prescription glasses to be worn within the T1 with an attachable internal frame and has gained TÜV Low Blue Light and Flicker Reduced certifications.

The arm stems are also adjustable.

Despite not formally attending #IFA2022 this year, Lenovo sent a small team to show off its new devices, which were launched on September 1st during its own TechLife virtual event, including the Glasses T1.

I spent some time with the team having a walk-through and then got to try them out for myself. It took a moment for my eyes to adjust, and the video is certainly clearer with a black or dark background, but the image was very sharp.

I spent 10-minutes on YouTube scrolling around the site with the attached phone as a TrackPad. The cursor was responsive and easy to navigate.

Could I watch a movie with these on and a Bluetooth headset? Yes.

Could I build an Excel spreadsheet or reply to emails? I might need some more time on that!
