CNN layoffs have come to the networks' podcasting department. Bloomberg reported on Monday that a number of employees were out of a job with the cable news channel.
One of those affected was Alexander McCall, who tweeted that he and his coworkers "were told the company plans to produce fewer audio series next year." As a result, McCall's job position was being eliminated.
"It's a shame because we've produced some A+ content, including a podcast that's currently in the top 10 overall on @ApplePodcasts," McCall tweeted on Monday. "But I'm proud of what we've accomplished, especially on the marketing and product side."
Bloomberg relayed a statement from CNN, in which a spokesperson stated that the company has "refined our strategy to focus our resources more specifically in those areas."
Warner Bros. has been seeking $3 billion in cost savings since its April merger with Discovery, leading to David Zaslav shutting down the news network's developing streaming platform, CNN+, a month after its debut.
