Being verified on Twitter, or any social media platform for that matter, is a big deal to some people. And it's a fact that being verified comes with benefits.
So it's understandable why some people would go through great lengths to get the coveted blue checkmark. Especially now since Twitter has halted a lot of verifications for individuals. A lot of times people will have an easier path to getting verified by going through their employer, especially if you work in the media.
WFAN anchor and BSM contributor Peter Schwartz recently got verified through the station, with a little help from Tiki Barber. But it probably could've taken less time than it did.
Morning host Gregg Giannotti offered to help Schwartz. Gio appeared on Tiki and Tierney on Monday and talked about the proposition he offered his colleague.
"As great of a guy as Peter is, he's one of these guys that doesn't return the carts to the corral at the supermarket," Gio said. "So we told him if he went to a Target, the Target near him, and he spent a half an hour with his shirt off returning the carts to the corral, then at that point we would get him the blue checkmark."
Schwartz apparently agreed to the bit initially, but then decided against it, according to Gio. Gio said it was a test for Schwartz.
"Cause I wanted to see how bad he wanted it," he said. "Like to me the idea of this grown man in his 50s caring that much about a Twitter blue checkmark, I wanted to see how far we would push him."
Barber wondered why Gio would torture a guy like Schwartz, but Gio said it was because Peter wanted the verification so badly.
"Nobody has wanted anything more in life than Peter Schwartz has wanted a blue checkmark," he said.
