Getting a job you want to do can be ridiculously difficult.
Even while some positions go unfilled, other opportunities draw tons of applications. Unfortunately, only one person gets hired and just a few people even get called for interviews.
Even more unfortunate is the fact that nowadays most companies don't even bother sending you a courtesy email letting you know they've moved on to other candidates. Your rejection is the radio silence from the hiring manager or the recruiter you've been coordinating with for weeks or months throughout the process.
A young woman named Erika got the silent rejection from Barstool Sports for a summer internship on the finance side of the business. She called CEO Erika Nardini's weekly call-in show and explained her experience interviewing with the company. She eventually asked Nardini if ghosting was a common practice by companies.
Nardini said it just depends on the company.
"I think when you're going for a job where there's a huge amount of people going for the job, and you can imagine our managers are busy, our recruiting people are overwhelmed, I sometimes think the follow-up can slip through the cracks," Nardini said.
She noted that she would be looking in to the no response rejection Erika got from Barstool.

Erika did seek out advice from Nardini, asking what she could do to better position herself in her field. Nardini said reaching out even after being rejected and respectfully asking why you weren't selected and maybe for things you could improve on is going the extra mile.
"You're doing exactly the right thing, which is always pursue the feedback and always look for the reasons," Nardini said. "You gotta have the expectation that most people aren't going to give you that time or the courtesy. But shoot your shot, push it all the way through, be shooting five other shots at the same time."
