The NBA Finals have begun, and we're a little bit closer to crowning a champion for this season.
ABC continues to be the exclusive home for the Finals, and ratings for last Thursday's Game 1 of the series between the Boston Celtics and Golden State Warriors are in.
The telecast averaged 11.9 million viewers between ABC and the special NBA 75th anniversary alternate broadcast on ESPN2. That figure was better than the last two editions of the NBA Finals.
The game was down 11% in viewership compared to Game 1 of the 2019 Finals between the Warriors and the Toronto Raptors. That was the last time the finals tipped off in its traditional June window. The last two finals started later because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Sports Media Watch, the figure for last week's game did make it the lowest rated Game 1 NBA Finals game since 2007.
Ratings for the NBA postseason have generally been positive, but the numbers show interest has fallen off in the last couple of weeks.
