The media is an ever-changing platform that will never stay the same. At the start of the 2000s, people got their news and information from how they now do in the 2020s. But, from social media to various streaming platforms, it's not as simple as turning on the television.
During a presentation at the Sarasota Institute, Media Ecologist and Founder of MediaVillage, Jack Myers, stated that "by 2035, the word 'media' will be obsolete and no longer commonly used."
Before diving into what the future holds, he took a look at how the media has evolved over the last 400 years, going from the printing press to where it is now. Furthermore, Myers spoke about the current course of media and why "the future of media is the Metaverse."
Recalling his more than four decades of knowledge and devotion to forecasting the future of media and advertising, Myers also communicated why he is becoming "more distressed and concerned about the future of media."
He states that media is currently in its fourth stage of consolidation, contraction, and collapse, leading to what's next. Myers adds that he's not an expert in the Metaverse, but he states that the media is moving toward an interconnected human intelligence.
