It's clear Drew Brees' plans for the 2022 season in terms of broadcasting remain in limbo. The retired Saints quarterback is yet to sign with a network since reportedly parting ways with NBC.
Former NFL linebacker LaVar Arrington's comments on his FOX Sports Radio show about Brees made the rounds on social media late last week.
"He's just not as popular as he thinks he is," Arrington said of Brees. "He's not as loved as he thinks he is, and he acts out when it doesn't go the way he would like for it to go. He's reaching out and he's crying out for attention."
Arrington's co-host, Brady Quinn, told Pat McAfee on Thursday that he was truly surprised when Arrington started receiving death threats from Brees followers on social media. He said even he had received some blowback on social.
Quinn did clarify the comments are several weeks old, and that he figured someone heard it listening to the podcast of the FOX Sports Radio morning show Two Pros and a Cup of Joe, which features himself, Arrington and Jonas Knox.
But ultimately people took LaVar's words out of context, according to Quinn. He said the point was that when compared to the deal that Tom Brady reportedly signed with FOX, the two future Hall of Famers just aren't valued the same.
"It wasn't meant to be a shot, it was more kind of just talking about the whole situation, but it really escalated and got out of hand pretty quickly," Quinn said.
McAfee did say he and the folks on his show interpreted it as Arrington taking a swing at Brees. But he added they hadn't listened to any of the segment, only seen the quotes that have been circulating social media.
