Sean Payton has yet to reveal his official plans for the 2022 NFL season, but it appears that the former New Orleans Saints head coach is headed for FOX.
Over on The Pat McAfee Show on Monday, McAfee and company didn't seem convinced that the TV side of things is where Payton will stay. McAfee said it could be a situation like Bruce Arians where after a year as an analyst, Payton will get bit by the football bug again.
He cited the Netflix movie Home Team, which came out last year. The punter-turned-talk-show-host joked that it was a documentary that showed Sean Payton didn't know his wife and kids existed until he was forced to take a year off from football.
The show speculated if Mike McCarthy is fired as the Dallas Cowboys coach that Payton would come back if he got the job.
"If Big Mike doesn't have the year that everybody expects the Dallas Cowboys to have, regardless of Jerry Jones showing their entire draft board or not, is that where Sean Payton's thinking about going?" Pat McAfee asked.
"If that Dallas gig comes open, and Sean Payton is offered that gig, I imagine he'll take it," A.J. Hawk said.
Hawk added that Payton just has that passion for the game of football that he won't be able to stay away from coaching.
"I think he'll be good on TV. I really do. But he seems like one of those guys. A coach's coach, man," he said. "That's what they do. They love it, the live for the 22-hour days trying to figure out what to do. Like what the defense is giving you, how I can beat them."
