New Jersey 101.5 news team, like other radio stations, has been receiving Regional Edward R. Murrow Award from the RTDNA. They received an honor for the "Best Newscast" for its Nov. 3, 2021 edition of "New Jersey's First News with Eric Scott," informing the morning after Election Day.
During New Jersey's gubernatorial election, Gov. Phil Murphy wasn't announced the winner until two days after the polls closed.
While other media outlets called the race, only New Jersey 101.5 kept its audience informed with confirmed vote tallies as they came in. Murphy's opponent, Jack Ciattarelli, would take another eight days to concede the race officially.
"What we do matters," New Jersey 101.5 Market President Brian Lang said, per Radio Ink. "No other broadcast outlet in the region matched our coverage of this important election."
"This award acknowledges what hundreds of thousands of listeners and millions of online readers already recognize: New Jersey 101.5's commitment to the Garden State."
The winning newscast from the radio station featured reporting by New Jersey 101.5 Statehouse Bureau Chief Michael Symons, mirrors that time's uncertainty and notifies listeners regarding state Senate President Steve Sweeney's stunning loss to political upstart Edward Durr.
New Jersey 101.5 went up against Pennsylvania and New York stations and now progresses to the National Murrow Award competition, with the awards to be announced this summer.
"This win is an acknowledgment of the critical role that we have at this radio station, and more importantly to those who rely on us for that information," New Jersey 101.5 News Director Annette Petriccione said.
