When Rachel Maddow extended her contract with MSNBC, it wasn't only to remain as host of her nightly program. The new agreement would see Maddow take on other projects, which is why she's making some changes to her work schedule.
Maddow will be hosting her show only weekly, on Mondays. The host is taking part in various projects for the company as she slowly begins transitioning away from her hosting duties on a nightly basis.
"It's nice to be back," Maddow said to open Monday's show. "I've been away from the show for a few weeks. I took a hiatus to give myself a little reset and also to work on some other MSNBC projects that I've got cooking."
"I am really grateful for it," she said. "I know it is an unusual thing to get in this business. I'm very grateful to MSNBC and the president for letting me do it. I'm profoundly grateful to the staff on the show to keep everything running, we're doing such great work."
When Maddow transitions to hosting only on Mondays starting next month, a rotating group of hosts will handle the show on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. No immediate plans for a replacement
