The football world was saddened to learn of the sudden and tragic death of former Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins Jr.

Haskins was killed over the weekend in Florida after reportedly being struck by a dump truck while on a state highway.

The condolences came pouring in from across the football world as the news got out there. But one person, Gil Brandt, became the focus of immense backlash for comments he made while speaking on a SiriusXM radio show.

"He was a guy that was living to be dead so to speak," Brandt, 90, said. Brandt chronicled much of Haskins' college career as an NFL scouting executive. Brandt did say he thought it was tragic that Haskins died, but for whatever reason he felt the need to pile on. "They told him don't under any circumstances, leave school early. What'd he do? Left school early."

"Maybe if he'd have stayed in school a year he wouldn't do silly things," he added.

A clip of Brandt's remarks surfaced on Twitter Saturday, and plenty sounded off.

Brandt later responded on his own Twitter, apologizing for what he said.
