Former Boston Red Sox play-by-play broadcaster Don Orsillo was disappointed when he recently learned his contribution to a tribute to former broadcast partner Jerry Remy was not needed.
Orsillo, who spent 15 seasons calling games alongside Remy for NESN, said he was offered a chance to record a video tribute to his friend, but then the plan for the tribute changed.
"Sadly, I was notified by Red Sox/NESN that my video would no longer be needed for tonight's ceremony," Orsillo, now calling games for the San Diego Padres, tweeted on Wednesday.
A Boston Globe report indicates the Red Sox invited Orsillo to attend the ceremony at Fenway Park in person, but Orsillo couldn't make it due to his Padres obligations.
Orsillo posted his remarks on Twitter as well.
Remy passed away last fall after a long battle with cancer.
