Sports betting in Massachusetts is ever so close to becoming legal. Both the State House and State Senate have voted to legalize the practice.
The state's Senate approved a bill on Thursday that, among other things, would ban betting on college sports and make it impossible to use credit cards to place bets. That's starkly different to a legalization bill that passed the state House of Representatives last summer.
Over on WEEI, Andy Gresh and Rich Keefe talked about the legislation and didn't hold back their frustration.
"We don't know you personally, it just seems to be that some of your actions would lead us to believe that you are a moron," Keefe said.
The two talked about how it's outrageous that a ban on college sports betting would be considered. Gresh blamed politics for getting in the way of something that should be more straighforward.
"If you batches of government knuckleheads pass this without college sports betting, then it's either crooked, stupid, or a word I'm not smart enough to come up with," he said. "So I would have to bank on these rubes, who have never bet, have no idea about sports betting, to come together and figure out that you can't bet on college sports, here are the tax rates or whatever."
He later added: "It's gonna get bogged down by stupidity, that's why I have no faith."
Ultimately the state legislature has until July 31 to come up with a compromise. The two chambers differ on tax rates as well. The Senate version of the bill has a significantly higher tax rate applied.
Gresh just wants to be able to bet. He feels like a lot of residents are in the same boat at this point.
"Let's just get it done, and can we be done with this for once and for all? Let's hope so," he said.
