If you're a Washington Nationals fan or New York Mets fan hoping to see former Nats and now current-Mets pitcher Max Scherzer make his season debut on your regional TV network, you're going to be disappointed.
The Washington Post reported that the Mets-Nationals game at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. on April 8 will air exclusively on Apple TV+, marking the first MLB broadcast on the streaming platform as part of the tech giant's deal with Major League Baseball. The broadcast won't be shown on MASN, the Nats' RSN, or SNY, the TV home of the Mets.
Fortunately for baseball fans, unlike hockey fans who have had to sign up for ESPN+ to catch games there, the game on Apple TV+ will be shown for free, without a need for a subscription, and won't be subject to blackout restrictions.
Fans will, however, have to download Apple TV+ if they don't have it already. The Post reported the free access is for a limited time.
Still, Nats fans eager to see their former ace pitch in D.C. or Mets fans looking to see their major offseason prize will likely express some frustration at the situation. And that's totally understandable. It's one more app to add to your phone or TV.
