WFAN host Craig Carton has a request for a New York Yankees promotion happening this summer.
The Yankees revealed their full 2022 promotional schedule last week, and coming up on August 19, the first 10,000 fans through the gates at Yankee Stadium will get a WFAN-sponsored bobblehead featuring the radio team of John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman. But the bobblehead will have a special element, playing some kind of audio.
Carton and co-host Evan Roberts were curious what clips they would use. They both agreed that Sterling would have some easy selections to choose from, including his home run call, "It is high, it is far, it is gone." But Carton wondered what they'd use for Waldman. He had a suggestion.
They then played a clip of Waldman announcing in 2007 that Roger Clemens would be joining the Yankees once again.
"It is a famous call in Yankee history," Carton said. He added that having a portion of that call would be great for Waldman to acknowledge.
"All these years later that she gets it and would have a little fun at herself, it would be the single-most wanted bobblehead giveaway in baseball history," he said.
Carton said he approached station management about using that clip but the idea is yet to get the station's approval.
"Management is unwilling to bless that," he said. "This is what the people want!"
Carton then suggested he could have a bobblehead of his own made and present it to John and Suzyn. Only time will tell what clips will be used. There's still some time for the team to sort that all out.
