Former WFAN midday host Marc Malusis said he became emotional when he received the offer from Nexstar Media Inc. to become a sports anchor at WPIX-TV in New York City.
"When I found out that I got offered the job, honestly, I started to cry," Malusis, 45, told Newsday's Neil Best. "I got emotional. I'm an emotional guy."
It's been an up and down last few months for Malusis, who was seemingly caught off-guard by the news that the show he had been co-hosting with Maggie Gray at WFAN was being cancelled last year. Gray has since transitioned into a CBS Sports Radio show hosting alongside former Dan Patrick Show producer Andrew "McLovin" Perloff.
"I was gutted. I was all of those things... It took me a little while to get over it, in all honesty," Malusis said.
Malusis will work with Justin Walters and Joe Mauceri to comprise a three-man team for PIX11. He'll anchor sports segments on evening newscasts and will present for the station's Thursday basketball show and Sunday Sports Nation program.
"I'm really excited to be at a spot where they're really supportive, really appreciative of everything I've done over the course of my career," Malusis said.
He will remain on weekends with WFAN as well, including the Sunday show he hosts with David Diehl during the NFL season.
