Lazy content does not make for good sports radio and TV, but a brief segment dunking on lazy sports radio topics did on Wednesday for The Doug Gottlieb Show.
Inspired by a segment from Wednesday's First Take, in which host Stephen A. Smith debated his Mount Rushmore of greatest NBA players, Gottlieb and his crew put together their own list of laziest topics in sports radio.
Among the topics sure to come up during a slow day on the sports calendar, such as the Monday before the MLB All-Star Game, "What quarterback would you want to start your franchise with? If you had a chance, who would you start your franchise with?" as well as everyone's favorite, the spelling bee.
"Every single May when the Scripps Spelling Bee comes on, certain sports shows will do the spelling bee," one of the show producers chimed in. "But the twist! Sports-related, folks, sports-related spelling bee."
Another topic that got a consensus agreement (and groan) was favorite sports movie and why. Gottlieb added which city had the best fanbase in any given sport and why.
"Could said great college team beat worst pro team?" Gottlieb added.
Also mentioned was the Michael Jordan versus LeBron James debate that gets constantly rehashed and other easy ones like should Pete Rose be in the Hall of Fame.
Will any of these topics be discussed in the future on The Doug Gottlieb Show? If so, this might be a segment worth remembering.
