620 WTMJ in Milwaukee is helping an injured police officer get to this year's Super Bowl.
Last week, officer Herbert Davis III became the third officer to be shot in the city in the previous two weeks. Davis was gunned down while attempting a welfare check on a man who was slumped over the wheel of his vehicle.
On Tuesday, Davis appeared on "Wisconsin's Afternoon News" to discuss his career, what led him to be shot, and his lifelong allegiance to the Cincinnati Bengals.
"I believe God is the one that saved my life," Davis said, responding to a question from co-host John Mercure about whether he was wearing a bulletproof vest that night.
Towards the end of the interview, Good Karma Brands Vice President Steve Wexler joined in on the conversation. Wexler thanked Davis for his commitment and service to the city. He also revealed that the station had arranged airfare, hotel, and tickets for the game for Davis and his father.
"My dad is my best friend, and as much as I am happy and excited about this, this would mean the world to him as much as it would mean to me," Davis said. "Hopefully, we both get to see a win, and I'm so appreciative. They say God works in mysterious ways, and this is one of them."
Davis acknowledged the other officers shot on duty, Milwaukee County Sheriff's Deputy Christian Almonte and Milwaukee Police Detective Andrew Wilkiewicz.
"These guys suffered the same thing I suffered through, and their families are going through this as well."
Super Bowl LVI will be played between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Los Angeles Rams, on Feb 13, inside Southern California's SoFi Stadium.
