NBC-affiliate WGRZ-TV is replacing its popular meteorologist Heather Waldman with someone in-house as they're planning to promote weekend meteorologist Elyse Smith to Waldman's Monday through Friday shift, per The Buffalo News.
However, the report states that Smith hasn't received the position permanently, but it does seem she will have the first crack at securing the weekday role.
As a result, the station is running a "Get 2 Know" promo, which includes Smith and the rest of the news staff, who answer various questions as viewers get to know them.
"The best part of my job is that I get to do something different every single day. I can be presenting the weather. I can be out chasing storms," Smith said in the promo.
Smith joined Channel 2 nearly 18 months ago after working in Missouri. With Smith transitioning to the weekday meteorologist role, Carl Lam will be taking over the weekend duties.
Waldman left WGRZ-TV in late September following five years with the stations as she departs for California, where her husband works.
