The Seattle Kraken will play their first game in the Emerald City on Saturday. It will be the first matchup of what the NHL hopes becomes a signature rivalry in the Pacific Northwest when the Vancouver Canuks come south to open Climate Pledge Arena. It will also be the first time that fans get to hear the Kraken's full radio crew.
Calling the action will be Everett Fitzhugh. He was hired nearly a year ago, making him the first Black team broadcaster in NHL history. Unfortunately, he tested positive for Coivd-19 right before the season opener against Vegas and has not been cleared to travel or call games until now.
Dave Tomlinson will join Fitzhugh in the booth. He is from the Vancouver area and was previously the analyst on the Canuks' radio broadcast. He also had a 15-year professional hockey career. While most of it was spent in Europe, he did compile 42 games on NHL experience, spending time on rosters in Toronto, Winnipeg, and Florida.
Rounding out the radio team is Mike Benton. He will serve as studio host. Before joining the Seattle Kraken, Benton spent five years as the voice of the Western Hockey League's Everett Silvertips.
Saturday night's broadcast begins at 6:30 pm Pacific time. The flagship station of the Kraken Audio Network is 950 KJR.
