Orlando Franklin has decided it is time to leave Denver radio. The 104.3 The Fan midday host announced this week that he will leave the station to embark on a coaching career in the NFL.
Bobby Turner, the San Francisco 49ers' running backs coach, is Orlando Franklin's father-in-law. Franklin spent the summer with the team serving as a coaching intern. He has now been offered a job on Kyle Shannahan's staff.
"My coaching internship with the 49ers was a tremendous experience, and I was honored that Coach Shanahan offered me the opportunity to continue with the team this season," Franklin explained on air. "While it's bittersweet leaving my radio show here on The Fan, the chance to continue learning from Coach Shanahan working closely with my father-in-law Bobby Turner was one I just couldn't pass up."
Prior to his media career, Orlando Franklin spent seven years on NFL offensive lines. The first four years were with the Denver Broncos. He played for the Chargers for two seasons, and then spent time on the New Orleans and Washington rosters during the 2017 season.
Franklin spent two years at 104.3 The Fan. The station wished him well in a statement online. Orlando Franklin responded by thanking the station and some of the people there most important to him.
"I want to thank my partner Sandy Clough, all of my teammates at The Fan and my amazing boss, Raj Sharan, for giving me a wonderful opportunity in radio," Franklin said. "Most of all, thanks to the great Denver sports fans who tuned in to listen. I'm going to miss you guys!"
Tuesday will be Franklin's final day on air at 104.3 The Fan.
