As a digital marketer a frequently asked question I get is why aren't I getting a return on ad spend from my Facebook ads ? There can be a number of reasons but one of the main issues I have noticed for my e -commerce and business coaching clients is they just don't have a good product or service for the audience they are targeting.
No level of skill in Facebook advertising is going make up for a poor service offering. It's about analysing the market from an objective view point. As an e-comm store owner or a business coach if you cannot do that you should not be trying to market your products or services.
Going back to the drawing would be the best thing you can do. Instead of trying to shape the market in terms of what you think is right for them. Look at what they are discussing, what they need, what they want. Google Trends is great for this, Buzz Sumo forums such as Reddit, Quora, keyword analytic tools such as SEM Rush and Google Keyword plannner can provide great insight into what is currently trending on the market.
Once you have figured that out you can take note of demographics such as age, location, gender, interests and more this is what you would make into a customer persona. Next you can make your own unique service proposition or USP which accords to what the persona in the target market actually wants.

With a customer persona you will be able to posistion yourself accordingly with the right advertisments on Facebook to draw in the interest and engagement you want with ads you're running an then optimise accordingly for an ROI.
