The readings for this course provided some very good food for thought. I already put some thought into how I set up documents such as lab reports when I write them. I think I can walk away from this course with a better understanding of the key details that really make a document stand out. I particularly enjoyed Wong's book on information graphics and plan to keep it on my bookshelf as a reference.
The other key techniques I will be taking from this course are the organizational and planning concepts. Logical mapping is a great way to get a project going and I have already used it to help brainstorm some ideas for new fall projects when I am back in Rochester. Utilizing the Idea of primary, secondary, and tertiary readers has helped me aim my writing rather than just putting out anything that comes out.
I appreciated the sections of the textbook that went over memos, emails, and texts. It helped me fix an Issue I had been struggling with for awhile. Whenever I sent a work email I struggled with he balance between professional language and trying not to sound passive aggressive. As the book recommended, I have been leaning into a more casual but professional style when I send email's and IM's at work. This has not only made sending messages less stressful, but it has improved my relationship with my coworkers.
