A birdie on 18 sending a tournament into a playoff hole turned the gallery into a raucous zoo. No, it wasn't steps from the Butler Cabin at Augusta, rather it was James Conrad in a feat in disc golf. Video of the unbelievable shot went viral on social media and even made it to No. 1 on the SportsCenter Top 10. On the heels of the sensation, ESPN will now cover The Portland Open -- part of the Disc Golf Pro Tour -- on August 4, per Sportico.

"This contract shows that, in regards to national broadcasting, disc golf is not just a filler for a lack of pandemic sports programming," DGPT CEO Jeff Spring said in a statement obtained by Sportico.

The DGPT has experienced incredible growth, capitalizing on new media such as YouTube as well as its own streaming platform. The young and vibrant league also appeared on ESPN's Ocho coverage, an annual stream of obscure sports sprung on by a joke in the film Dodgeball. Given the league's buzz and the sport's growth across the country, its next step into traditional media is no laughing matter.
