Pat McAfee, former NFL punter and current host of The Pat McAfee Show, said on his program on Friday that a "media source" told him the phone call between Undisputed's Shannon Sharpe and Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones was not planned.
The call in question occurred on Undisputed and centered around the ongoing Jones trade rumors. Sharpe called Jones on his cell phone as Skip Bayless looked on in curiosity. Jones then said of Atlanta that he was "out of there," fueling a media and Twitter firestorm. The move by Sharpe was fairly widely panned by other media members as it was not clear at the time whether or not Jones knew he was on television.
According to Dianna Russini of ESPN, a trade of Jones could occur as soon as this week. Several teams, including the Seahawks, Titans and Ravens have all been mentioned as likely landing spots for Jones.
This is not the first time that McAfee has broken news of the NFL being caught off-guard by something that happened in the media. Just last week, he revealed that he fielded phone calls from his former team, the Indianapolis Colts, unsure if Adam Vinatieri's retirement was real or a bit for McAfee's show.
