As gun violence continues to escalate in the City of Baltimore, police commissioner Michael Harrison is expressing frustration and disappointment with the city's increasing homicide total.
Harrison joined C4 and Bryan Nehman on WBAL Newsradio 1090 AM and 101.5 FM Wednesday to discuss the tumultuous Memorial Day weekend in which nine people were shot and killed and five more were wounded.
City Police report 127 homicides by May 31 2020, compared to at least 136 so far in 2021, according to media reports.
"It's a lack of consequences carrying guns, not necessarily shooting and using… there are no conflict resolution skills… a lack of respect for human life," Harrison said.
C4 whose real name is Clarence Mitchell IV, served in the Maryland House of Delegates and the Maryland Senate from 1995 – 2003, has been an outspoken proponent of stopping repeat offenders from committing the same crimes repeatedly.
The duo pressed Harrison about stiffer penalties for people that carry out violent crimes.
"I can tell folks we're coming out of COVID," Harrison said. "Courts are back open…. We're still arresting people," said Harrison. "We're going back to the individuals... I want people to know that we're making sure we can prosecute them with good cases."
C4 and Bryan Nehman can be heard weekdays 5:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Learn more about the show on the station's website.
