Saying that Jim Rome has been critical of PGA Tour golfer Phil Mickelson in the past is akin to saying over the years, The Cookie Monster has shown an aversion to balanced nutrition. So when Mickelson made an improbable run en route to the 2021 PGA Championship title, some "Phil fans" took to Twitter for victory laps at the radio host's expense.
Rome responded on The Jim Rome Show on Monday to say while he will eat crow, he's not having it with listeners claiming clairvoyance on the front end.

"If you're going to sit here and say to me that you called your shot, that you saw this coming, you're a liar, and a really bad one at that," he said. "Stop with that bullcrap because thats what that is."
Rome pointed out the Vegas odds coming into the tournament at 200:1 (some books were even shown at 250:1), and that less than 1 percent of the betting public bet on Mickelson before the tournament took place. He also listed Mickelson's World Golf Ranking, his previous missed cuts this year, and lack of recent top 20 finishes in his block with a few patented shots along the way at some of the golfer's endorsements and products. Still, he did provide context that the win on Sunday was impressive.
"Mickelson defied reality and I'm the first one to own that and admit that; it was incredible," he said. "This guy is serving the world a Thanksgiving feast of crow."
At 50 years, 11 months, and 8 days old, Mickelson became the oldest winner of a major tournament, passing 48-year-old Julius Boros t the 1968 PGA Championship and 46-year-old Tom Morris, Sr. at the "we all remember where we were" 1867 Open Championship. Rome added some advice for those giving him comeuppance on Twitter.
"Pull up a freaking chair, grab a knife, and quit acting like I'm the freaking only one who didn't see this coming."
