Frequent visitors to this blog know that I often have a photo in the gallery of the flag flying over the memorial at Veterans Park or one of the flags I pass on the way to and from the park. Today is Memorial Day in the US, and I decided to share twenty-one of those photos, in honor of the brave men and women who have given their lives during the history of this country so that we may enjoy the freedom we set out to achieve a few hundred years ago.
It's good to see the flag still standing proud in Veterans park.
After months of standing alone, the flag is being surrounded by full trees.
You can't see it, but there's a solar powered LED floodlight mounted under the flag so that it's illuminated at night,
This is the first time in over a year that the parking lot has so many cars in the lot that they are included in my flag photo.
The flag is back to full staff today (Tuesday) but was at half staff on Monday.
I've been trying to get some interesting pictures of the flag for Memorial Day.
The flags are at half staff as a mark of solemn respect for the victims of the senseless acts of violence perpetrated on March 16 in the Atlanta metropolitan area.
Early in the week, the flag was at full staff and the snow pile was still pretty high.
I know, the flag again, but I haven't seen it blowing this full for a long time.
One flag – Every American!
No one will be tending to the flag for a few days.
A little bit of wind is filling out the flag at Veterans Park.
Those contrails have all faded, but they are still visible behind the flag.
We are on our way home from our walk. This flag is one of our favorites.

Every now and then (I'm sure there's a schedule) the flags are lowered in CT for the virus victims.

The flag is back at half staff. It was raised over Memorial Day weekend, so the honor procession could lower the flag to half staff for their ceremony.
This flag has been up and down like a yo-yo lately, It's good to see it flying high.

One Flag – Every American
I know that this is the first major holiday of the year, and it falls at a point where pandemic restrictions are being lifted, and we might be beginning to feel like things are normal. I know that historically this weekend is considered the unofficial start of summer. That's all good, but please take some time today to think about the people who paid the ultimate price to make this all possible.
