SiriusXM fired PGA Tour Radio host Mark Lye following remarks he made over the weekend about women's sports, specifically the WNBA.
As explained by Awful Announcing, Lye was speaking on the SiriusXM show The Scorecard following the third round of the PGA Tour's AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am when he went on a brief tangent.
"You know, the LPGA Tour to me is a completely different tour than it was 10 years ago," he said. "You couldn't pay me to watch. I couldn't relate, at all."
But he wasn't done there. He branched out and took a swing at the WNBA.
"But I saw some highlights of ladies basketball," he said. "Man. Is there a gun in the house? I'll shoot myself to watch that."
Lye went on to say he never preferred watching women's golf, explaining he used to host a tournament of his own that would feature LPGA pros and other female athletes. His co-host chimed in saying he wouldn't have to worry about that based on his comments.
"Good luck getting any WNBA players," he said.
After he was fired, Lye responded on Twitter and attempted to defend his remarks. "The fact that I can't relate to WNBA does not make me sexist in any way," he said.
Responding to a supportive tweet, Lye later said he was now part of "cancel culture."
"I'm already having fun with it," said Lye. "I've had a couple of death threats, and some nice things said about my family. That's how cancel culture works."
