Apple TV+ still doesn't have a live sports offering to tout on its platform, but it will soon have a highly anticipated sports documentary series to draw in plenty of viewers.

Apple announced a premiere date for its four-part film on NBA legend Magic Johnson, billed as Magic's version of Michael Jordan's The Last Dance. They Call Me Magic will launch on April 22.

(Incidentally, that premiere date is scheduled after HBO's Los Angeles Lakers series, Winning Time, is scheduled to debut on HBO Max.)

Johnson shared a preview of the doc on his Instagram.

"From his humble beginnings in Lansing, Michigan to becoming the global force he is today, They Call Me Magic features intimate interviews with Magic, his family, and an all-star lineup, as the docuseries charts the cinematic life of one of the biggest cultural icons of our era," a description of the series reads.

The series is being directed by Rick Famuyiwa (Dope, The Mandalorian) and edited by Dirk Westervelt (Ford v Ferrari), with cinematography by Academy Award nominee Rachel Morrison (Mudbound).
